At Cartes & IDentification 2011, Paris  (15–17 November 2011) MELZER demonstrated the advanced inlay production line M4.

The inlays produced include compensation foil and can subsequently be processed on our fully automatic lamination line for industrial production of e-NID cards in ID-1 format or passports.

The MRTD product, be it an e-NID card or driving licence, border crossing document or e-passport must have a long life-cycle and is usually equipped with security elements. In addition to the lasered photo other security features like CLI/MLI, micro-lettering, latent image etc. must be integrated.

MELZER’s inline production is the key to success. The combination of sheet material with partially very thin reel materials and the unique precision of +/− 0.1 mm is reliably performed during the only industrial production process. The material sandwich is laminated for only 20–30 seconds at 180–200°C. This patented lamination technology ensures a gentle handling of the electronics (ICAO inlays) and other security features like ink, security thread etc. Thanks to the modular system, control stations or card inspection systems can be integrated as well.

A number of governmental enterprises are our reference customers for this large-volume production solution.
